Typical Use Rates for 2,4-D on Pasture and Rangeland in Nevada

Hi, Harold:

This is in response to your request for information on average 2,4-D rates on range and pasture lands in Nevada. In Nevada we only treat very small acreages of range and pasture lands with any herbicide. For example, the latest edition of the agricultural statistics report (2002-2003) lists only 825.3 acres of rangelands treated with herbicides and 539.1 of those acres were treated with 2,4-D. The pasture figures are similar in that 977 acres were treated with herbicides, with 353 acres being treated with 2,4-D. That being said I'm sure that additional acreages were treated, and not reported, but my experience is that the total amount treated annually is still minuscule when compared to the amount of range and pasture lands that exist in Nevada.

As to rates, most treatments are for hard to kill noxious weeds or willows. In that case the rates are normally the maximum allowed so I would estimate that we are looking at approximately 2 lbs/ae or ai/acre for most applications.
